About Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar is an ancient city in India’s eastern state of Odisha, formerly Orissa. Many temples built from sandstone are dotted around BinduSagar Lake in the old city, including the 11th-century Hindu Lingaraja Temple. Outside Rajarani Temple are sculpted figures of the guardians of the 8 cardinal and ordinal directions. Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, have all had a presence during some time in its history. All the religions have left their architectural footprints here. In particular, this is a place where the Kalinga style of Hindu temple architecture flourished between the 10th and the 13th century.

Bhubaneshwar is very famous for woven ikat fabrics, which can be purchased as readymade garments, fabric and saris. Appliqué worked fabric locally known, as Chandua is a typical Orissa handiwork.Jain antiques, weaponry and indigenous pattachitra paintings fill the Odisha State Museum.

With many Hindu temples, which span the entire spectrum of Kalinga architecture, Bhubaneswar is often referred to as a Temple City of India and together with Puri and Konark it forms the SwarnaTribhuja ("Golden Triangle"), one of eastern India's most visited destinations.

The modern city was designed by the German architect Otto Königsberger in 1946.Bhubaneswar has been ranked 86th in Housing and Inclusiveness category and 59th in Health category.

Odia is the most common language spoken with in the city and state. However, with a culture shifting towards cosmopolitan manner, Hindi and English are very much understood and accepted.
